Palestine

Palestine is a geographic and cultural region at the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea. It has been continuously inhabited for thousands of years. The Palestinian people are an Arab people with a distinct cultural identity — language, cuisine, embroidery traditions, music, architecture, and family structures developed over centuries in this specific geography. They are not a recent invention. They are a people.

In 1948, the State of Israel was established on the majority of Mandatory Palestine. Approximately 750,000 Palestinians were displaced from their homes — expelled by military force, fled direct violence, or left under the assumption they could return. They were not permitted to return. Their property was transferred to the new state under the Absentee Property Law of 1950. The right of return, affirmed by UN Resolution 194, has not been implemented.

Palestinian culture is ancient, specific, and alive. It is found in the tatreez — embroidery that documented village identity stitch by stitch. In the dabke, a line dance performed at celebrations from Ramallah to Chicago. In maqlouba, built in layers and inverted. In the olive harvest — not metaphor, but an annual event Palestinian families have participated in for generations and are systematically prevented from participating in today.

There are approximately 14 million Palestinians in the world. Fewer than half live in historic Palestine. The rest are in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and scattered across a global diaspora that includes Chicago, where this brand was built. The diaspora is not an abstraction. It is the specific condition of being from a place you cannot go back to, carrying an identity that the world keeps asking you to justify.
